TRYING OUT MY NEW - CANON EOS REBEL T3i CAMERA

COM
So lately I've been busy learning how to use my latest camera - the Canon EOS REBEL T3i. It seems everyone and their mother owns one, hence there are many reviews on this camera so I won't go into detail other than to give my personal use experience.

This camera was an early Christmas gift from my husband. As my experience in photography develops, so does the camera. I couldn't wait to get home and open it up.

It was a kit containing the following items:
 1. The Camera (of course)
 2. Battery Pack (with protective cover)
 3. Battery Charger
 4. Wide Strap
 5. Interface cable
 6. Stereo AV Cable
 7. EOS DIGITAL Solution Disk
 8. Software Instruction Manual
 9. Camera Instruction Manual (which I am now using religiously instead of my usual way of learning anything - push buttons first, figure it out later!)
10. And of course their standard zoom lens, the EF-S 15-55mm zoom lens. This standard zoom lens is designed with Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer technology which allows sharp hand-held shots at shutter speeds up to four stops slower than otherwise possible. For now, it's good enough!

Some of the accessories contained in the kit

Whenever I need to practice using my camera(s), my loverbird, Houdini, (other than my backyard squirrels), is my most favourite subject to photograph. He never seems to mind and is always ready and willing.  I tried to dig up old photos of him using my previous camera - an old Olympus camera, which is still a great camera by the way, to compare photos with this new Canon Rebel camera.

When I first started using the camera, I kept it on the 'A+' setting - where everything is done automatically and which is the suggested setting for beginners. I could see an immediate difference in picture quality, both colour and sharpness, but it wasn't until I started using the 'macro' setting that I could really see the difference.

Then I just went crazy!
By the end of this photo shoot, this camera made me look like I knew what the hell I was doing... you know, like an expert!  For that reason alone, I LOVED it!

MY SCORE!: A B&D RECHARGEABLE SPOTLIGHT FOR $11.99

0
COM
Look what I scored yesterday at a Canadian Tire store - a Black & Decker Rechargeable Spotlight for $11.99.  It was regularly $59.99!  I wasn't in there shopping for a spotlight but for that price, as the Belgians would say- you can't leave it!

Besides, it was only later I realized it would be most beneficial for me when it's time to enter the dreaded attic. There are no windows in this attic, it is as pitch black as can be so I thought this spotlight would come in handy.  Money well spent!.. I thought.

You can also use it in many other places as suggested on the box:

Use it for Roadside Assistance, Fishing/Boating or Camping!   Oooooh... I'm so excited!

Now if only I could use it right away but it says it has to be charged for 24 hrs!

UPDATE!
Aug. 29, 2013

Ok, it seemed to take forever to charge but I don't know if it was because I would plug it out at night and re-plug it in the morning but eventually I just used it.  I was waiting for the charger light to turn green - it never did.  Anyways, it gives off a really bright light, almost like a beam and the other light setting seams 'normal'. Either way, so far it seems like a good score.

I'll be trying it out in the attic for a true test and will be getting back to you with the results....

REVIEW: MY NEW FUJIFILM FINEPIX XP50

COM
Ok, so today, as promised, I will give my personal review on this product. I finally got around to uploading some pics and video shots taken from my new Fujifilm Finepix XP50.

First, let me say, for the money I spent (see my original post), the camera did its job for what I wanted it to do.  I am doing this post for those of you who are going on vacation and want some fairly decent shots both on land and in and around water without ruining the camera and without spending an arm-an-a-leg!  This review is not for you professionals! Lol.

I am no professional photographer, I wanted a camera that could take shots of underwater sea life, as well as take normal land shots without damaging the camera itself. This Fuji camera did just that.  Now having said that, if I had read the instructions and manual on how to use the camera BEFORE I had actually used it, I would have taken even much better shots (I'll explain later).  So folks, here you will learn from my mistakes and what NOT to do. By the way, their previous model, the XP20, was the most popular waterproof, shockproof camera in the world in 2011!

DON'T PURCHASE THIS GLADE AIR FRESHNER!

So today I've discovered that a company can make an air freshner that is absolutely capable of making you sick.

Yesterday I wanted to get into the festive mood and to start things off I wanted the house to have a nice 'chrismassy' (is there such a word... oh well),  smell.   So I went out shopping for a few fragrances in the air freshener department.

There were all kinds of fragrances to choose from - Clean Linen, Apple Cinnamon, Apple Cinnamon (Limited Edition Winter Collection), French Vanilla, Fresh Berries...  It's crazy!  I mean, by the time I was finish reading them all I was starving for some desert!  Anyways,  I was standing there like an idiot trying to smell them all - smelling (more like sniffing) and re-smelling and re-smelling and having a hard time deciding which ones to buy.  In the end I just grabbed a bunch and hoped for the best.  After all, how bad can an air freshner be?  It's whole purpose is to make your place smell nice... right?
