YOU KNOW WINTER IS COMING WHEN...

0
COM
I keep hearing and reading it will be a harsh winter this year.  I can only hope they are wrong. However, according to that old winter folklore further below, I'm afraid they could be right.

YOU KNOW WINTER IS COMING WHEN...

... all the leaves are almost gone.

... squirrels are busy collecting insulation from your patio furniture.

A Winter Folklore

If ant hills are high in July,

Winter will be snowy.
If the first week in August is unusually warm,

the coming Winter will be snowy and long.
For every fog in August,

There will be a snowfall in Winter.
If a cold August follows a hot July,

It foretells a Winter hard and dry.
When leaves fall early,

Fall and Winter will be mild;
When leaves fall late,
Winter will be severe.

Squirrels gathering nuts in a flurry,

Will cause snow to gather in a hurry.
Much rain in October,

Much wind in December.
A warm October,

A cold February.
Full Moon in October without frost,

No frost ’till November’s Full Moon.
Flowers bloomin’ in late Autumn,

A sure sign of a bad Winter comin’.
A warm November is the sign of a bad Winter.
As high as the weeds grow,

So will the bank of snow.
Thunder in the Fall foretells a cold Winter.
Onion skins very thin,

Mild Winter coming in;
Onion skins thick and tough,
Coming Winter cold and rough.

A green Christmas; a white Easter.
If there’s thunder during Christmas week,

The Winter will be anything but meek.

A tough Winter is ahead if:

corn husks are thick and tight…
apple skins are tough…
birds migrate early…
squirrels tails are very bushy…
berries and nuts are plentiful…
bees build their nests high in the trees.

PERFUME VS. BEER

COM
Lol. So the other day, my husband bought me a Jean Paul Gaultier perfume to add to my many collections of perfume.  I started collecting them about five years ago - when he bought me my first bottle from Dolce & Gabbana.  Up until then, I was wearing the 'cheaper' stuff, because that's all I could afford. Now I collect perfumes like women collect purses, bags, shoes etc., but only if HE buys them, lol.

I have to admit, I was not too impress with the fragrance. As a matter of fact, I was more impress with the bottle!  I was staring at it and staring at it. Turning it around and around.  Lol.  I've never heard of this perfume before, (or any other perfume until he hands them to me), so I was so surprise, first of all, that it came in a can and doubly surprised when I saw what was IN the can.  I had to take pictures...

POLL: ARE GRAPHIC IMAGES NECESSARY?

5
COM
WARNING:  GRAPHIC IMAGES!

So last week I sat down to read the paper only to discover amongst the flyers a postcard so graphic it left me dumbfounded.  Why would anyone even think to send such a thing in the mail is beyond me.

Usually, I can handle gross images, but when it comes to children, I can't.

Even more confusing for me is the fact that I'm actually for graphic images. In Canada, along with over some 30+ countries, graphic images are used everyday on cigarette packs to get messages across about the dangers of smoking.  How effective this is, is another story, but I'm sure those graphic images saved a few lives.  This for me however is different.  What if a child discovered this image first? Or are today's children desensitized to all this?  What if some adult sees it and immediately goes into seizure? Maybe displaying these images has opened up a lot of eyes - it sure has mine!  I didn't even know the laws in Canada allows one to abort fetuses so late in pregnancy!  This is like murder to me, of a human being! But was this the right approach?  Couldn't they have inserted them in an envelope with some kind of warning on the envelope itself?

These postcards were created and distributed by the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform which targeted a few MPs who voted against an anti-abortion backbench motion, a motion which wanted to start a study to define when a human life begins.

Jonathon Van Maren, communications director of the anti-abortion centre stated:
"We know these images will turn some people's stomachs. They turn my stomach. But we looked at the history of social movements … and they often used graphic images to get their message across."
Ok.  So maybe he has a point but like I said, did they have to do it this way?

I don't know. I remember reading a long time ago how Russia displayed on it's billboards real accident scenes to deter drinking and driving. On one hand it's good to 'wake us up' to reality but on the other hand, too much and we will only be desensitized after awhile.

For the rest of that day, all I could talk about at work were these images. A lot of my co-workers were shocked and some wouldn't even dare to look at the postcard.

So what are your thoughts?  Are graphic images really necessary to get a point across?

A WORK IN PROGRESS... MAKING SENSE OF MY SON'S ART PROJECT

3
COM
So Today I became curious enough and opened the door to my son's room.  He's been in there for a week, lol.  Only coming out to eat and shower.  Final term is wrapping up at university and it's crunch time.  He's taking Graphic Arts Design but really doesn't seem too happy doing the 'art' part of it.

I don't get it.

I thought Art and Design went 'hand-in-hand'?

He is doing this huge poster-size art work on his wall and is now adding in all the details. This requires A LOT of shading and he doesn't seem too content on doing it.

"Too time consuming," he says.
"I don't want to be an aritist, I want to be a Graphic Designer."

"What's the difference?" I asked, but he was too frustrated for the moment, to answer me.  I will try again later.

All I managed to get out of him in regards to this assignment is that it had to involve a few of the people in his class... including himself.  Why there is a spatula and pipe involved is anyone's guess.

"What's up with the clouds... and that 'nipple' down below?" I wondered out loud.  Oooh... he was getting mad.

"That's not a nipple!  It's an eye!" he yelled.

Oooookaaaay then.  I quietly vacated his room and shut the door behind me.  I'll check back in a few days...

I still don't get it!

NO MORE COMPLAINING ABOUT CLEANING THE SNOW OFF MY CAR!

0
COM
So 2 days ago, I awoke to more snow falling outside.  I had to go to work later and the part I hated about all this was having to constantly clean the snow off my car.  I had to clean it off before work, during work, after work.

I know, I know, it's all part of living in a country where snow is inevitable.  I just wanted to rant about it since this is my place, and I can do so.

Actually, this was my son's car I was cleaning since he didn't have to use it that day, (and his is cheaper on gas ;)... and had snow tires on!)

Anyways, after all that cleaning, it started to snow again and when I finally got to work, the lots weren't even plowed yet!

NO POP THIS MORNING - FROZEN

0
COM
I forgot to bring my bottle of pop inside last night, (in winter I make use of the coldness by using the outside as my gigantic freezer!) and this was the result:

(Good thing I drank all the beer first!)

Grrr!  I usually like to have a quick glass of pop before having my coffee.  Now I'll have to wait to thaw it out in the sink...

So in the meantime, I decided to go make myself some breakfast and discovered this↓

One brown egg in my carton of white eggs.  à² _ಠWhat the hell?  I never buy brown eggs!  Is someone trying to give me a sign here?

Forget it!  I'm going back to bed!

NEXT DAY:

The next morning when I made breakfast, my toast was looking like mickey mouse.  I was like,  à² _ಠ "What the hell..??"

That's it!  No breakfast involving eggs.. or toast for awhile.

CRAZY WINTER...

1
COM
So what's going on with this crazy winter of ours?  One minute I'm boiling hot inside, and outside - no snow to be found ANYWHERE, the roads are nice and clear and the temps are reasonable... 11º C, that's almost 52º F.  Not bad for winter!

Then the next minute I'm freezing my ass off and holding on for dear life as I'm 'skating' across the icy roads since the side streets are always the last to be plowed...

Grrrr!   I love the beauty of nature - winter and all, but I just wish it would make up it's mind sometimes!  I guess I shouldn't complain.  It could be worse.  Like in Russia where temps reach -50ºC in some places... OUCH!

HAPPY-BELATED-NEW YEAR EVERYONE! MY RESOLUTION IS...

0
COM
My New Year's Hat that was given to
me at work!  They were handing them
out that day...
Happy belated New Year everyone!  Sorry, had to work, but better late than never!

So how was your New Year's day?  I was able to 'squeeze' in one beer after work, (I just started drinking - but that's another post all together), before passing out from exhaustion.  I'm such a party-pooper.

So today I've decided that my new year's resolution is to never, ever make another new year's resolution for as long as I live. Let's hope I can stick to it, lol but it shouldn't be a problem since this is the first resolution I've ever made!

I never make a committment of any kind 'cause I know myself - I do not like restrictions, rules or limits and when I feel the need to have to do something - I just do it.

Take for example smoking.  I had been smoking for roughly 20+ years (I really don't remember how long, but that sounds about right).  Then about two years ago - back in October 2010, I decided it was time to quit - so I quit.  Yes, just like that.  It wasn't easy and I suddenly took up a habit I never had before.  Eating pretzel sticks. (I sort-a looked like that guy in the pic below but I would eat my pretzel after 'smoking' them, lol).   I later realized it covered 2 things that I apparently associated with smoking at the time - having something between your fingers and having something in your mouth. It was weird but I guess it was my way of dealing with it.  That lasted for about - I don't know - 2 months, then that was it!  I never had another pretzel stick - or cigarette, since.

So I never make resolutions unless I know I can keep them hence this year's resolution.

I don't do diets.  I believe in eating EVERYTHING, in moderation of course.  A little bit of everything is good for you - too much of one thing isn't.

Anyways, if you made a resolution, I wish you honestly the best of luck because for some people, this is something important and something they need to do for whatever reasons.

If you can, let me know what your new year's resolution is this year and how you plan on carrying it through.  If you fail half way through, don't worry, I'll be here to support you either way!

Happy New Year again!

MEN - DON'T LISTEN TO THIS WOMAN!

Today I came across a post I did on "MFS-The Resource Center blog" that was quite popular and have decided to include it here on my personal blog.  I was not happy to read what this woman wrote in regards to what women needed from a husband.  I needed to rant, so...

My husband said "Go for it!".  So I did!
